Recommended - the freeware
AVIS FITS viewer
. Opens SBIG image files directly, has a nice/flexible log scale function in
the histogram window, slider bars for contrast and brightness, saves to .jpg,
.tif, .bmp, and other formats. Very simple and intuitive, almost no learning
curve. 830kb, the most useful freeware I've found for the non-perfectionistic
occasional imager like me.
Christian Buil's page
, including his powerful freeware image processing program
IRIS
, which is unfortunately pretty complex. I've crashed it repeatedly by
entering invalid parameters. But I suppose it'll do great things if you spend
time with it.
