When To Observe
- Now!
- When it is near the Meridian (highest
point in the southern sky)

- I prefer before opposition so scope has time to cool
Observe
with what?
- Almost any telescope with good optics
- As small as 4-inches, as large as you can get your hands on
- Good eyepieces and a barlow
- Color filters (experience recommended)
- Scope has to be temperature equalized. Best for at least a couple of hours
Observing Sites
- Almost anywhere with
a good southern horizon
- Light pollution
doesn’t matter!
- Backyards/balconies
work fine
- Security is
important since you need to leave scope out to cool off
