Notes |
|
Follow I-79 into West Virginia and
to exit 99 (Route 33 East). |
|
|
Follow Route 33
East through Buckhannon, Elkins, Seneca Rocks, and on to Judy Gap
where 33 and 28 split. |
About 90 miles
driving distance. |
|
From the
intersection of Rt. 33 and Rt. 28, go right (south) on Rt. 28 for
about 8.5 miles through Circleville and Cherry Grove and then turn
right onto Sawmill Run Road, CR28-10. |
Circleville has
a small gas station and food mart. It’s your last contact with
civilization and has the closest pay phone to Gatewood on this
route.
Sawmill Run Road
is about half a mile past the large brown Monongahela Natural Forest
sign |
|
Follow CR28-10
for about 2.5 miles and take a hard left turn at the intersection
with CR28-9. Stay on CR28-10. |
The paved road
will turn to gravel on this leg. Ignore the small signs for the
Gatewood trail, along the way. These are not for the
Gatewood Group Campsite. |
|
Take a right
onto PR-112. Follow the brown signs for Spruce Knob and Spruce Knob
Lake. |
You depart from
CR28-10 at this point. |
|
Continue strait
the junction for Spruce Knob, Spruce Knob Lake (PR-1) and Whitmer. |
Go towards
Spruce Knob. |
|
Turn left at the sign
for Gatewood Group Campsite (PR-131). |
Please lock the
gate behind you. The campground is one mile ahead at the end of the
road. Congratulations, you made it! |
